I know it has been five and a half months since I published a personal post. Having always wanted to keep my blog cheerful and upbeat, I didn't feel like I could do that during that time. We've had a lot of ups and downs the past few months. Since I have made several good friends through blogging, I did want to give you a heads up on our life.

We've had a cancer scare with one of the kids, illnesses, a radical change in diet because of health problems and more. The girls are finishing their senior year of high school and to the great surprise of my husband and myself, my daughter decided to join the Navy. She will still be pursuing her medical degree, thank goodness!
The spare kid is going away to a college honors program in a different state where she "thinks" she will study marketing.

I can't even find a photo more recent than February since my daughter got her own laptop and began uploading her photos to it instead of mine.

Our lives will also take another turn this fall. My son is going back to school, bringing our homeschooling days to an end. I am planning to go back to school as well, and possibly pursue those dreams of traveling!

I had planned to write this as a farewell post but can't bring myself to do it. I do want to come back to my blog but am unable to devote a lot of time to it presently.
Hopefully when our lives settle down a bit, I will be able to return to full time blogging on Mom's Mutterings. Until then, I miss you, bloggy buddies!

Tron: Evolution Battle Grids

As some of you may remember, my son saved up his hard earned money from mowing lawns and bought his own Wii system. He's always looking for fun games to add to his collection. I surprised him with this review. Talk about a happy camper!

Tron: Evolution Battle Grids is a series of games (we'd call them mini games) based on the Tron Movies. It can be played in several different settings, including Grid Games, Championship Mode , Story Mode , and Character Evolution. Because up to four people could play the game, he can challenge his friends or both girls to a game.

His favorite game was the Light Cycles Arena where he tried to force opponents to crash into a light trail. He had a great time challenging the girls and beating their score. He also enjoyed the story mode where he spent lots of time battling with light discs.
The one complaint he had was involving the graphics which are mostly in dark colors.
A couple of the games might also be easier to play if we had a Wii wheel but are still enjoyable without it.

I've read her witty, informative columns and wasn't sure what to expect from her first romance novel.
Jack leaves prison a somewhat embittered man. The last thing he expects to do is rescue his enemy's ex-wife. His not so subtle attempt at revenge by marrying Lucy backfires when he begins to fall for her. There is plenty of action and drama as Lucy tries to help Jack prove his innocence. I liked the character development too, as Lucy begins to fight against her abusive background and attempts to conquer her fears. This is a fun read for a cold winter's night.

Coupon Binder Review

As a lot of you know, I am a coupon fanatic. While standing in line at Kroger recently, the woman behind me stopped me and asked, "Where do you get your coupons? I want to be like you." After telling her several places to look for coupons, she told me, "I want to coupon but it takes so much time."

I had to agree. People don't realize how much time couponing can take, especially if you're coupons aren't organized. I have been searching for years for the easiest way to organize my coupons. I tried boxes, which worked but was bulky. I couldn't lug a box into the store. I needed something portable which could keep me organized.

Lately I had begun to see lots of people carrying "coupon binders" into the store. I wanted one of these but didn't know how to make one for myself. Thankfully, Elizabeth at The Coupon Binder Store came to my rescue. She sent me her Hand-made Coupon Organizer which includes:

Plus, I have the added benefit of being able to jump on unadvertised and clearance specials which I couldn't do when I only carried the coupons I knew I would need for my shopping trip.

My daughter has become very active in sports lately. It's surprising because she claimed she was athletically challenged. Hmmm. She taken up tennis, racquetball, and spelunking. I can't imagine crawling around in a cave for hours and coming home covered in mud would be fun, but who know?

More Tricks than Treats

For the past few years I've been loading up the kids and taking them to a friend's house for supper and trick-or treating. This year our area celebrated on Saturday and we did thing a little differently.

The boys dressed up for trick or treating...

and the girls dressed up and walked down the road with us. (They could have walked the boys down the road, but no, we had to tag along too.)

Even though the girls didn't trick or treat, only standing at the side of the road with us, some kid started yelling at them, "Hey, you girls! You're too old to trick or treat! It's against the law!" After that, they went back to the house and gave out candy.

Then, the girls came upon the "brillant" idea to visit the "Forest of Fear" and "The Voodoo Bayou." Since my daughter had nothing to wear, my friend's hubby loaned my daughter his camouflage clothing. She went from princess to redneck in less than one minute!

The transformation is complete...

Obviously, one must blend into the "Forest of Fear." I had always said my daughter could argue with a stop sign, but I had never realized she could argue with a machete wielding zombie. I guess I really don't have anything to worry about when she leaves for college!

We're Sinking....

Lots of big changes have been happening around our home lately. Unfortunately, I can't share them with you yet but we're still making decisions. We did take an epic adventure. We have sailed on the Titantic!

We entered the Titantic and received our passes. At the end we found if we survived.
Bryan, as Captain Smith, was doomed from the start. The rest of us were unsure.

Since I was forbidden by copyright laws to take pictures on the inside, I'll tell you about the best part. The outside deck was recreated exactly as it was the night the Titantic sank. It was dark, with stars shining down and only 31 degrees. We were allowed to feel the iceberg and dip our hands into the 28 degree water.

Because I almost froze, I left everyone else and went back into the warm area. I've discovered I am no Rose and I don't think anyone in my family could be Jack either!

Seagate External Hard Drive

One problem I have with my computers is they are shared with teenagers. By the time they have downloaded several albums, some pictures, and added several games, there is no memory left on my hard drive. As a treat to myself last year, I took my computer to a "geek" and had him add more memory. My kids were ecstatic! Now there was more memory space to add pictures, games, and music.

What could I do about this? I received a Seagate External GoFlex Portable Hard Drive. With 320 gigabits of storage space, I can back up my files, save pictures for me, and still have plenty of room for the kids' stuff.
Because it is lightweight, slim, and portable, it is easy for my daughter to carry it to study sessions. My "other child", who is yearbook editor, uses the portable hard drive to hold the photos needed to create the yearbook.

It comes in four eyecatching colors including black, red, silver, and blue. When used with other GoFlex devices, the kids are able to connect with our network and with the TV. I am glad to have a stylish solution to our computer problems!

The "Udder" Story

I meant to post long before this but my father has had pneumonia (still recovering) and between all the hospital visits, doctor visits, and everything else, I am behind!

Although my kids can visit my in-laws farm whenever they want, we don't have our own Cheese Farm. We had to see the "udder" side.

It turned out to be County Farm Day which meant we shared the farm with several (obviously sheltered children). We watched the kids gather around a cow (which had a large sign proclaiming, "COW") and the horse (which had a large sign proclaiming, "HORSE"). However, we got some delicious cheese samples and tried elk sausage.

Now if I could just find the rest of my pictures!

This Is Normal?

I long ago gave up on the idea that my children would be "normal." When I sit down to browse through my pictures, I never know what I will find.
I can't even begin to guess what my daughter is doing here.....

but here is Peeve's reaction. He is obviously trying to accomplish the "See No Weirdness" pose. It seems to be working for him.

On the Road Again...

While on the road, wandering aimlessly, the girls found a Farmer's Market. Because of their ability to get lost, it could be somewhere in Kentucky for all I know. They found lovely fall produce.

They said they received some strange looks but I didn't believe them until I saw this photo. I think these poor children do not know whether to run for cover or hide from the girls.

What amazed my daughter the most? People wearing clothes they created themselves. She told me, "Mom, if I had to wear clothes you made, you wouldn't even sew them together! You'd just safety pin them!" Sadly, this is true. Even though I took an entire year of sewing in high school, my home sewn clothing still drew mocking comments.

However, I had to remind her it could be worse! My cousin, in high school home ec, once sewed all four sides of a slip together. This might not sound bad until you realize her mother was the home ec teacher.
Obviously, we did not receive my aunt's sewing genes!

We're Lost!

We often tease my daughter about her navagational ability. Basically, we tell her she couldn't find her way out of a paper bag. She decided to take a road trip on Saturday and do some shopping at the outlet mall. Instead, (and this is wholly possible with her), she found herself closer to Atlanta at Lake Alatoona.

Still, everyone had a good time and enjoyed their day. Plus, she brought home an awesome seafood dish she purchased at Henry's, a restaurant they found. Since I was able to eat some of the seafood dish, I won't complain about her directional ability (or lack of)....this time.

I try to share my love of history with my kids. While visiting Stone Mountain I tried to encourage the kids to visit the Antebellum village. Here's the houses I was happily wandering through.

Here's the kids while I rambled through the houses. Notice my daughter is still texting.

And here's the mountain I was forced to climb as part of a family bonding moment. After that experience we are now all enrolled in an exercise program.

Quality Time?

On Labor Day we decided to pack up the kids and spend a fun day at Stone Mountain Park. The kids were excited about riding the paddleboat. See the quality time of me paddling and my daughter texting?

Bryan (who obviously is tired of the family he has and wants to find replacements) decided it would be "fun" to hike up the side of the mountain. Here we are at the beginning of the trail. Notice there is no after picture because Bryan was afraid we would gang up on him at the top and push him off.

On the other hand, thanks to the "enlightening" mountain climbing experience, we are now purchasing a membership at the YMCA so we can begin exercise classes. It will bring about even more family togetherness.

The Eyes Have It

For those of you who wondered how the eye drama ended, my daughter did have some permanent eye damage. She has an scar across her cornea and now sees a halo of light around the eye. She still has some eye pain and can't stay in direct sunlight for very long. However, she is able to see, so we are very thankful.

Unfortunately, shortly after she was able to see again, she hydroplaned while coming home from the grocery store and hit another car. When I see those articles where people say raising children can be done for low cost, I just laugh.

Sassie, however, wants everyone to know she is still large and in charge. See how she guards our food supply? No one will touch these poptarts!

My family has always loved honey. The kids would stand in the store and stare at the honey jars and ask, "When we have a coupon can we purchase some honey?" Mostly bee farms, where the bees are controlled within a certain area and usually get their pollen from only one kind of flower. Many of the plants that produce these flowers (clover, orange blossom, etc.) are grown with pesticides and fertilizers as well.

Shabby Apple Dress Review

For the past seventeen years Bryan has told me, "Stop spending all the clothing money for the kids and buy things for yourself." Of course, I didn't listen. The kids have stylish, chic wardrobes and I don't.

When I was offered a chance to review a dress from Shabby Apple I almost choose a cute teen dress. After looking through their selection I decided I needed the dress instead!

I chose the Oh La La!.
Described as a "bold,stripped jersey knit top tucks into a high-waisted A-line skirt creating a figure worthy of the latest gossip, while the 3/4 sleeves and boat neck infuse the look with a style that is no optical illusion."

I liked the color combination and the style which can hide such flaws as pear shaped hips. I also liked the easy care combination. It's machine washable!

I wore this dress to church on Sunday. Later that evening my daughter came through wearing the dress. "If this were fitted a little more, it would be perfect for me!"

"Too bad," I replied, "I ordered a medium." "Well, it was a little too big for you too," my daughter remarked. The dress was sized generously so a small would have been perfect for us.

The next day I discovered my daughter had left wearing my dress! Obviously this dress is not only mom approved, it's teen approved too.

Old Fashioned Courting

The girls have found a new love in their life--tennis. They spend hours on the court. They try to entice their friends to play.
Their guy friends hate to play with them because "The guys just want to play tennis. They don't want to stop for picture breaks."

Here's the girls showing off their impressive tennis skills. They had to take turns photographing each other in different tennis positions.

When I saw this photo I knew there was no hope of an athletic scholarship.
Here's one of the girls looking for the tennis ball.

"I know it's here somewhere. Have you seen it?"

Yep, she was seriously wondering where the ball was. I put my hope into scholastic scholarships instead.

As the town takes sides and even her brother wants her to recant, Andi's resolve will be tried to the breaking point.

One of the many things I enjoy about this series is the lack of romance. It's seems teens and preteens are bombarded with romantic stories. Instead, Andi is a plucky female heroine who often finds herself in trouble for trying to do the right thing.
She is an excellent role model because she stands up for the things she believes in--her faith, her family, and her friends, even if it means going against the crowd.
She's a leader and not a follower.

The only downside is this is the final book in the Circle C Adventures series. Andrea Carter and The Price of Truth ends this series with a bang and will leave you wishing for more. However, Susan is beginning a new series for young readers (ages 6-8), with the first two books being released this fall. You can sneak a peak at the new series here.

Someone's Got My Goat

Actually, it's my son with his new goat. This week the goats on my in-law's farm had five kids. Because there are five grandchildren, everyone was given a goat. (Too bad they are not allowed in our subdivision and have to stay on the farm! Ahem.)

My son has named his goat "Roy." (Or in case a tragic mistake has been made and this is a girl, it's name will be Royce.) My daughter wants to call her goat "Rolls" so we can have a "Rolls" and a "Royce." It doesn't appear Roy (or Royce) is having a good time in this picture.

If you look closely you can see something my son is not so proud of---his new braces. Those braces, which made him unhappy, cost much more than the goat, which made him happy. Proving once again money can't buy happiness!

Brace Yourself! Most Shocking Post Ever!

I thought about entitling this post "Who needs video games?" But decided to shock you with a picture you never thought you would see.

On Sunday we decided to spend a leisurely afternoon at the local "beach." My son had a great time playing in the water. He also created a new product that he has high hopes of marketing -Sand Pillows--"All the comfort of home with all the mess of sand."
I told him the slogan needs work.

How did I spend the afternoon? Relaxing on a blanket in the shade. I was sleeping happily until I was rudely interrupted by my family who wanted me to spend time with them.

You never thought you would see a picture of me, did you? It could happen again. Maybe. In several years.

For everyone who has asked about my daughter, here she is sporting her happening shades. She is improving and the doctors expect her to make a full recovery and have her vision fully restored by this weekend. They also said she should be completely pain free by this weekend.

Several times a year I host "get togethers" including a Fall Festival for around 100 people and a Christmas gathering for 35 people. I also host our family Thanksgiving dinner.

While I enjoy hosting these events, I hate all the preparation and cleanup involved. Who wants to wash dishes for this many people? At the same time, I want my table to look elegant.

Our Brush With Fame

Last week, before all of the eye drama, my daughter came into my room to tell me the latest news.

"Mom, you wouldn't believe what a bunch of the teen girls and their moms are doing today."

Me: What?
Daughter: "Robert Pattinson is in town and they are all camping out at the film set to see him."
Me: Who?
Daughter: The guy who plays Edward in Twilight. He's filming about six miles from our house.
Me: Why on earth would he want to film here?

Eventually, my daughter and one of her friends decided to drive by the movie set and see what was going on.

Who did they see?
The camera crew and the gardener. They have a picture of the gardener winking at them as they drove by. Once again, fame has passed us by.

Eye update:
There is still a tear in the cornea and the Doctor is unsure how it happened. He has said that he cannot give her pain relieving eye drops because it will not allow the tear to heal. She is still wearing her patch, has cloudy vision, and is in pain. We go back to the specialist Friday for an update. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Health Crisis--Update

SUNDAY EVENING UPDATE
Thankfully, the swelling down the side of her face has gone down. She saw the corneal specialist today. Her condition has not improved.
He could not understand what was causing this as she has had no eye trauma. She is in intense pain but they cannot giver her any pain relieving eye drops because it not allow the tear in her cornea to heal.
He prescribed even stronger, new eye drops and said to use those until tomorrow at one when he would see her again and decide on a course of action.

Background Information:
Thursday night my daughter kept me awake crying with her eye all night long. I thought she possibly had pink eye. Her eye is swollen shut and it looks as if someone punched her.
I took her to the doctor Friday morning who said she had a corneal abrasion and an eye ulcer. We tried some meds and a bandage contact. He told us she was in severe pain and needed a recheck on Saturday morning.
We took her back Saturday morning and her eye is worse. They are calling in a corneal specialist and trying to stop her from having permanent damage to her eye.

Saturday
She is home but in major pain. She is on several eye drops, strong pain meds, and wearing an eye patch. It has turned into a major infection and serious condition that is right in her line of vision. We see the Cornea specialist for an emergency doctor appointment tomorrow at 12:15.

Clementine Paint Review

My children have always loved to paint. I have masterpieces saved from their earliest days. I've had my share of "wall art" that my children have shared with me over the years too.
One thing that concerned me about painting with my children over the years is the amount of chemicals in paint. Recently, I discovered "Clementine Art products.

Italian Cream Cake Recipe

Several people have asked for my Italian Cream Cake recipe, so I am sharing. It is actually my Mother in law's award winning recipe. Hope you all enjoy it!

Ingredients for cake
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup shortening
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 egg whites
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 to 2 cups flaked coconut (depending on taste)
1 to 2 cups chopped pecans (depending on taste)

Frosting Recipe
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup margarine, softened
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans

1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease three 9 inch, round cake pans. Combine soda and buttermilk.
2.Cream sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup oil and shortening. Add egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix buttermilk mixture alternately with flour into creamed mixture. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla.
3.Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold 1/3 of the whites into the batter, then quickly fold in remaining whites. Stir in 1 cup pecans and coconut.
4.Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes,

5.Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:
Beat together cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter or margarine, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and confectioners' sugar. Stir in 1 cup chopped pecans.

Too Much Education?

I love ~~forcing~~ involving my children in educational opportunities. When we arrived in St. Louis, the kids begged to go to the City Museum.
Naturally, I agreed. When they want to go somewhere that will provide an educational experience, who am I to say no?

However, my daughter wanted to go to the rooftop museum. Then, she wanted to sit in a school bus which was hanging halfway off the building. (Um, no thanks.)

Here's the view from the roof. See the nice safe area around the ball pit? That's where I like to be. The roof was way to educational for me!

Senior Moments

These are not the type in which I wander into a room and spend time glancing around and muttering, "What did I come in here for? (Although these do happen fairly often!)

Today I took my daughter to have her senior portraits taken. Naturally I thought they turned out beautifully. Here's her "offical senior portrait."

I had planned on taking my children on a thrilling (not to them) educational adventure to the Cakohia Indian Mounds while we were away.

That was the first reason my kids would never vote me "Mother of the Year", I try to sneak educational events in as fun.

Instead, I took the exit to Cahokia (a small town) and wound up here, the Jefferson Military Barracks.

This is the second reason my kids would never vote me "Mother of the Year", even when we are totally lost, I can find educational places to visit!

I made them pose for a quick picture. Don't they look thrilled?

Third reason my kids don't want me as "Mother of the Year," I make them pose for pictures.

Hopefully my kids will never find out about the Three Strikes and Your Out campaign.

I've heard that one must only allow children to go away to college if they "are mature enough to handle it."

Here's my seventeen year old. She maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking all AP or advanced courses. She works 15 hours per week and volunteers one day a week doing hippotherapy with autistic and special needs kids.

Here's me and my cousin when I was seventeen and visiting my cousin's beach house in Florida. Notice how stylin' I am in the happening tunic. (Sadly, I really thought I was. However, I did know the makeup was no good.)

Here's our room--obviously only "slightly" messy.

Don't we look hip? (It's only root beer. We're underage!)

We arrive in St. Louis where it is impossible not to find something to do. My kids love to ride the Metro. What did my daughter do?

Now imagine photos like this at places all around the city and you can see how my daughter spent her free time. She did decide she is applying to both Washington University (her personal favorite) and St. Louis University. I may spend a lot of my future in St. Louis!

When the last of the snow has finally melted, soccer season starts!

Can the Wild Bunch defeat the Unbeatables, or lose their field of dreams forever? Can they do what no team has done before?

The Wild Soccer Bunch features a group of unlikely friends (some from the wrong side of the tracks, some rich, etc.) who join together to form a soccer team. I enjoyed the diverse group of characters who band together. I also like that the kids are not perfect. Some are opinionated, some stink at soccer, and some battle impossible odds to play on the team.
On the other hand some of the players are sneaky, conniving, and use some inappropriate language. Overall, I enjoyed the book because I felt that the players learned important life lessons and formed important friendships.
I would advise parents to preview the book first. It would be a great discussion tool for many of the peer pressures kids face today.

Wish me luck. Hopefully, we'll make it further than the end of the driveway on this trip before something bad happens.

My daughter has been taking participating in lots of photo shoots lately to add to her AP Art portfolio. This shot reminded me of one of those "groundbreaking, hardhitting, investigative news reporter teams." Can fame be far behind?

My daughter asked to attend a large week long music festival in the nearby metropolitian area. I was unsure but she was going with a group of friends and had the required (by me!) adult supervision.

Naturally you would think she would take tons of photos. Maybe get shots of the bands or the many activities. What do I get? A picture of her standing in front of the Mello Yello bus. She did get a free Mello Yello for her trouble.

I have suffered from severe allergies all my life. You name it, I am allergic to it. Trees, grass, everything! It doesn't help that I live in the third worst city for allergies in the US. My allergist recommended I try Aller-Ease products. However, I was reluctant to spend money on a product which might not help me.

I had tried allergy free bedding products in the past and found them to be uncomfortable. They made loud rustling sounds in the bed and felt like I was lying on a bunch of crumpled paper bags. The other products did not hold up in the washer either. Would Aller-Ease be different?

Yes, I Am Glad I Lived!

On Friday I showed you a few pictures of the aftermath of the tornado I was driving through. I can assure you it is not an experience I care to repeat! Because my Sister in law lives on a farm, I noticed the animals were acting strangely as we started to leave. Here's their corral...

This huge tree came down in the field beside us...

It doesn't look that big until you see my 5"8 daughter standing beside it...

Here's the office moved from its foundation. My daughter added the boots as a tribute to the Wizard of Oz.

And the tree that came down between their home and office just a couple of minutes after we walked out the door.

My daughter has reminded me that I will at least have an interesting story to tell my grandchildren someday. I prefer to tell them boring stories!

I'm A Storm Chaser & Smelly Towel Winner

If you've read my blog for a while you know I always have weird trip stories. Yesterday was the long awaited trip to Atlanta. I stopped by to pick up my Sister in law and drop my nephew off at my in-law's farm next door.
The sky was clear when I arrived but I noticed a few clouds beginning to gather. I hustled my nephew in the car as it started to thunder and sprinkle. As we started down their long driveway, we were surrounded by a thick "fog." We couldn't see or hear anything but knew the jeep was moving sideways and things were hitting us. Suddenly, it was calm and clear.

We looked around and this is what we saw....

My in-law's rental property missing their back deck...

parts of the barn missing...

and I didn't even photograph the more serious damage. My sister in law's home office was moved off its foundation and sitting somewhere else.
Neighbors ran out and began exclaiming about the funnel cloud which had just touched down. We were in the eye of a tornado and, thankfully, lived to tell about it.

This is the first trip when I didn't even make it out of the driveway before something went wrong! (If you're wondering, we didn't make it to Atlanta.)

I can assure you I do not have a career in Storm Chasing!

Summer Break and the Living Is Crazy!

The kids have only been on summer break for a few days and already they're beginning to show signs of boredom. This is the only logical explanation for these photos I found on my computer!

Obviously, the weirdness has spread to my daughter's job. I found that she is making a photo of different things each day she works. At least her coworker looks happy!

Also, I'm off to celebrate my anniversary today (a little early) since I made other plans for Thursday. Olive Garden here I come!

Just when you thought you were safe to visit again, Frances from Looking Forward to An Equally Frugal 2010 blessed me with The Versatile Blogger award. If you haven't visited Frances check out her blog. She always makes me laugh with her posts. Upon receiving this award I must share 7 things about myself.

1. Next Thursday I will have been married twenty one years. Huge shout out to Bryan for putting up with me and my weird family for all of this time.

2. When we were leaving for our honeymoon my flower girl started sobbing hysterically. I found out her parents had told her she could go on the honeymoon with us. We took her for a twenty minute drive around town as our "honeymoon" before bringing her back and leaving for real.

3. My flower girl recently found me again on facebook. I am looking forward to visiting with her this summer.

4. On our honeymoon Bryan got his only speeding ticket in his life for going five miles over the speed limit. I could not convince the cop that honeymooners should not have to pay tickets.

5. Because we were tired and ready for the day to be over, we stopped on our wedding day and got a quick supper at Taco Bell. (Now, that is super romantic!)

6. I had my first child three and a half years after we were married. My daughter always asks me why I had to have more children!

7. I am an only child so I didn't know siblings were supposed to fight. I thought families were like the Brady Bunch!

My daughter had to research "Blue Holes" as part of an environmental issues assignment. To her surprise, she found our area had three!

Naturally, the kids had to "research" this discovery.

I took the kids on a six mile(!) hike around a winding mountain trail. Naturally my daughter had to explore the cave. Her brother was delighted! Especially when he saw tracks in the mud inside the cave.
"Keep checking the cave," he yelled, "Maybe you'll find a bear!."

Imagine his disappointment when it turned out to be a raccoon. You can almost feel the love they share for one another.

What Happens When I Don't Blog For A Week...

Everyone in the household goes slightly loopy! See what has happened to my daughter?
***Actually, she was trying to see if she could scare people with her apparel. Of course, since there is no way we would have let her out of the house dressed like this the only people she could scare was her family!***

While on break I made plans for the summer. One event I scheduled was to take the kids to St. Louis for a week for college tours. Yes, I am taking three teenagers to St. Louis by myself! ( Is this possible grounds for insanity?)

Also, I planned for my sister and law and I to attend a Mom Select blogger convention in Atlanta. This should be fun! My sister-in-law has started her own blog while she recovers from her cancer surgery. If I ever discover her blog link (I keep telling her to use blogger!), I'll let you know. Maybe you can drop by and say "Hi" to her.

I also planned lots of doctor appointments and scheduled a surgery. Those things weren't fun.
